Summary of Asymmetric Reality of Language
Asymmetric Chat is a prototype designed to artificially create asymmetry in language within communication. It is an interactive installation that allows users to experience this “asymmetry of language.” On the website, two users’ screens are displayed, and they chat with each other. However, the words sent by one user are transformed into a different topic by GPT-4 before reaching the recipient. For example, talking about coffee may be perceived as discussing architecture by the other person.

Applications:
- Asymmetric Reality of Maps (converting pins on a map between regions)
- Illustrated Asymmetric Reality (maintaining the structure of diagrams using Mermaid.js while changing content)
People who have seen tweets have come up with various interesting examples:
-
Comedic, humorous examples:
- US military base vs. women’s restroom
- VR vs. spiritual/psychic world
- Love reality vs. VR
- Dragon vs. tax return
- US military base vs. women’s restroom
-
Serious, intriguing examples:
- “Human” and “enemy” https://twitter.com/Akitsuki_dash/status/1754340152359698548
-
I like structures or expressions where trying to touch each other hurts each other, like the so-called “Hedgehog’s Dilemma,” so I tried this kind of approach even though it may be arbitrary.
- This is a really good demo (blu3mo)(blu3mo)
- The conversion of “understanding each other” into “fighting” makes it tragically clear that they are not understanding each other.
-
- “Human” and “enemy” https://twitter.com/Akitsuki_dash/status/1754340152359698548
-
“Reality is truth vs. reality is God”
- Very intriguing (blu3mo)(blu3mo)
- Examples like this make me think that even people with different values can have conversations and fundamentally reach an agreement.
- Very intriguing (blu3mo)(blu3mo)
-
Other examples:
- Asymmetric Reality of Maps
- Conversion between universities
- Amazing, the names of faculties and buildings are being converted (blu3mo)(blu3mo)
- Conversion into anime character style
- This is also possible (blu3mo)
- Trying with mushroom and bamboo shoots was interesting, but it didn’t work out well
- GPT-4 lacks knowledge about mushroom and bamboo shoots.

Example: chat
Haru: Hey, have you tried the new coffee blend recently? (Have you tried the new Pocky flavor?)
Mayu: Yeah, the espresso and caramel blend, right? Surprisingly sweet and delicious. (The mint chocolate flavor, right? Surprisingly refreshing and tasty.)
Haru: Exactly, that's it! But I still prefer the classic Americano. (Exactly, that's it! But I still prefer the classic strawberry flavor.)Mayu: Americano is nice too, right? I personally prefer cafe latte. I enjoy the smoothness of the milk. (Strawberry is nice too, right? I like almond crush. The texture is enjoyable.)
Haru: Oh, that's also good. Why are there so many different blends of coffee? (Oh, that's also good. Why are there so many different flavors of Pocky?)
Mayu: Maybe they cater to various people's preferences? And every time a new blend comes out, it becomes a topic of discussion. (Maybe they cater to various people's preferences? And every time a new flavor comes out, it becomes a topic of discussion.)
Haru: Indeed. There are even days dedicated to coffee, and new blends are released on those occasions. (Indeed. There are even days dedicated to Pocky, and new flavors are released on those occasions.)
Mayu: Yes, it's International Coffee Day, right? Was it on September 29th? It's nice to try a new blend on a day dedicated to celebrating coffee. (Yes, it's on November 11th. It's because the stick-shaped Pocky resembles the number 1.)
Haru: That's right. But coffee is not just a beverage; it has become like a culture, hasn't it? (That's right. But Pocky is not just a snack; it has become like a culture, hasn't it?)
Mayu: I truly think so. Enjoying coffee and the importance placed on communication through it seem significant. (I truly think so. Sharing the joy of snacks and the importance placed on communication through it seem significant.)
Haru: Yes, that's why everyone seems to love coffee. So, what blend are you going to try this International Coffee Day? (Yes, that's why everyone seems to love Pocky. So, what flavor are you going to try this Pocky Day?)
Mayu: Hmm, I hope there's some unique new blend to try. Looking forward to it!
