When I seriously contemplate my desired future self, life plans, and the rationale behind my actions, I tend to become distressed.
- In all likelihood, no matter how hard I try, I will ultimately come back to the question of ”meaning of life“.
-
In facing this, I had the following thoughts:
- Is this something from Nietzsche?
- However, I want to avoid getting trapped in believing something once and then being unable to break free from it.
- In the uncertain world ahead, it’s quite possible for scenarios like setting a goal and fully embracing it from the depths of your heart, only to have the premise collapse, to easily occur.
-
As a third approach, there seems to be a life perspective like the following:
- Having a fleeting view of life as a base, but immersing oneself in a mode of believing in a goal as a fleeting whim.
- The imagery of putting on and taking off the VR goggles of “meaning of life and aspirations”.
- There are various VR goggles such as “engaging in interesting research”, “earning money”, “spending enriching time with people”, “living a life like the mist of the world”, and by wearing them, one immerses oneself in that world.
- However, keeping the option of taking off the VR goggles in mind.
- Good things:
- Most problems can be resolved by living in the moment.
- When living with some kind of purpose, events can turn into “bad events”.
- For example, “not submitting the assignment by the deadline is bad because it will lower my GPA and cause trouble in the graduate school entrance exam”.
- But if deep down you think that those are goals you set for yourself, you won’t worry too much.
- When living with some kind of purpose, events can turn into “bad events”.
- Not dying a meaningless death.
- Even if one could fully embrace a fleeting view of life, they would probably end up dying meaninglessly.
- Life is colorful and enjoyable with meaning.
- I would rather choose a life with meaning over a life without meaning.
- Most problems can be resolved by living in the moment.
-
This text might not be about desires of “this is how I want to be”, but rather a description of understanding the mechanism of “this is how I think I will turn out”.
- Fundamentally, I think “I prefer a life with goals and meaning over a life without them”.
- I also accept relativism/the absolute lack of meaning in life.
- With that in mind, I choose to immerse myself in some form of goal as a fleeting judgment.

Is this Thoughts on Emptiness? (blu3mo)
- Perhaps the philosophy of emptiness is essentially relativism.
- In that case, I would like to know what Buddhism is talking about. (blu3mo)
