- Access to urban areas is good for a college like Bryn Mawr.
- Founded in 1833, Bryn Mawr is a prestigious liberal arts college with a Quaker heritage that emphasizes a well-rounded education. The college operates under an Honor Code that respects students’ moral values, allowing them to take responsibility for their academic and social lives without constant surveillance. Examples of this include take-home exams and a culture of mutual respect in social interactions. However, the college has strict punishments, including expulsion, for any instances of academic dishonesty. As part of the application process, students are typically asked to write an essay on their interpretation of the Honor Code. Bryn Mawr forms a consortium with nearby prestigious women’s college Bryn Mawr College and Swarthmore College, one of the top liberal arts colleges in the United States. Students have the opportunity to take courses offered by these two schools and develop close relationships with students from those institutions.

Liberal arts colleges are often located in suburban areas. For example, Williams College is in the middle of nowhere, several hours away from any major city (laughs). It may seem inconvenient, but there’s a reason for this. These colleges prioritize creating an environment conducive to education… in other words, an environment for studying. On the other hand, there are schools like Haverford that have campuses near urban areas. You can reach the city in about 20 minutes by train. It also has excellent access to other cities, with a 2-hour bus ride to New York and Washington, D.C., and a 6-hour ride to Boston. As part of their coursework, students can visit art museums or enjoy a nice meal with friends at a decent restaurant on weekends. It opens up possibilities like that.
