Reproduction

• For species, “success” is ultimately about DNA replication.

  • The failure of the Agricultural revolution is a clear example.

    • Humanity transitioned to agriculture in pursuit of a more comfortable life, but in reality, although efficiency increased, population also grew, resulting in a decrease in quality of life.
    • In other words, even if we strive for a more comfortable life, the results of that effort are programmed to flow towards reproduction.
    • Despite making efforts to increase the parameter for a comfortable life, the parameter for reproduction takes priority before it can be raised.

  • Rice and livestock are also winners (from the perspective of reproduction) due to the agricultural revolution.

    • However, the quality of life for livestock has clearly decreased compared to when they were free (similar to the previous example). #Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind
