Normally, I manage to get through with a different kind of buff, but during the driver’s license training camp, that buff doesn’t work at all, making it an ideal environment for debugging.
Various Communication Protocols
I used to think of communication with people I meet for the first time as a “game of finding each other’s interesting thoughts/experiences/perspectives,” but it seems like most people operate on different logic.
- This was an eye-opener for me.
- I used to believe that the main reason for communication breakdowns was not being able to find each other’s interesting aspects.
- Instead, it might be that we were playing different games from the start.
The essence lies not in the content but in the process of engaging in a rhythm game-like communication. While having common topics during this process is convenient, it is not the essence.
I believe that life becomes easier when you can play rhythm games, so I want to develop my own play style/pattern during the driver’s license training camp. Understanding the evaluation axis in rhythm games, separate from the content’s interest, and building a consistent behavior/character that aligns with it? There seem to be verbal and non-verbal elements.
It would be good to find a user-friendly character (behavior, information shared, topics discussed, gestures, etc.) in this game. I may not know how much I can reuse it, but I now understand the meaning behind being told by a professional to become a “quiz king” before.
I don’t feel troubled by the fact that communication is not working out right now, so I don’t think there is a need to “debug.” However, by gaining the skill to adjust that, I believe I can expand the circle of people I get along with and the world I see significantly. I want to approach this with a positive mindset and motivation.
Until now, I have been optimizing for the “game of finding each other’s interesting thoughts/experiences/perspectives.”
-
Scrapbox is a prime example of this.
-
In other instances, I have generally tuned in to “what aspects of myself would be interesting to the other person.”
- However, there is a possibility that the objective function of this tuning was wrong from the start.
-
There was a boy who was driving a manual car but I forgot his name. He also mentioned not knowing how to talk to people he meets for the first time, similar to the conversation above.
- (While challenges may vary,) the struggles seem to have a universal aspect.
-
It reminded me of Trillion Game Episode 64 ‘10 Yen Investment’.
- Watching the behavior of (tkgshn) during the driver’s license training camp, I feel there are similarities to Haru (Trillion Game).
- What’s this about, (tkgshn)? I’ll read it later.
- Probably even if (tkgshn) reads it, it will make sense.
- Apart from that, if you are interested in “startup manga featuring someone similar to yourself,” I think you’ll enjoy reading Trillion Game.
- I recommended it but hadn’t read it myself, but now I want to read it after seeing this exchange. (nishio)

Lack of general knowledge in topics like “love stories” and “sports discussions”
- Is it okay to cry? by the driving school group (KS00Max)
- Since when did love stories become general knowledge? (takker)
- The responses on this Scrapbox itself symbolize my current situation. (blu3mo)
- Agreed. (tkgshn)
- “Favorite celebrities” and “baseball, soccer” are also topics. (nishio)
- Agreed. (blu3mo)(tkgshn)

Conversations are supposed to start from general knowledge and expand, but I lack the knowledge and common language skills in that area.
- I have acknowledged this current situation.- The brain doesn’t have a model for people one doesn’t usually meet, making it difficult to imagine how they might react to certain conversations, what responses they might give, or how to avoid potential pitfalls.
-
On the other hand, I had conversations with people from UWC ISAK and once again felt how easy it is to talk to such individuals.
- There is a shared context and knowledge that allows a model of the other person’s behavior to exist in one’s mind.
- It’s easier to anticipate reactions like “if I talk about this, I might get this response.”
- It’s also easier to find common topics to engage in.
- However, there is no desire to isolate oneself in that environment (blu3mo).
- It helped in recognizing differences.
- There is a shared context and knowledge that allows a model of the other person’s behavior to exist in one’s mind.
-
What (blu3mo) aims for now:
- (blu3mo) believes that the learning derived from adapting to peers at a license camp can be applied to various environments.
- While it may sound overly generalized, on a more individual level, it’s about wanting to get along with the people around you (blu3mo).
- Curiosity to learn new things.
- A sense of obligation/normative motivation to “not confine oneself to a homogeneous human world but to explore the wider world.”

- I actively tried to initiate conversations and ask questions about 40% more than usual, but didn’t feel much response. I struggled to land on topics where the other person was enthusiastic and I could respond appropriately.
- I found myself worrying too much about whether what I say might offend someone, making it difficult to engage in conversation. While observing tkgshn, I realized that the way of communication is a significant factor rather than just the content, and I want to experiment with this.
- Ultimately, since the number of attempts matters, I want to continue with an approach of being proactive like a “10-yen investment.” I tried this a bit in the bath.
- This is more of a behavioral issue than a skill, so I will work on it.
- I had an interesting conversation with the Chinese and Afghan individuals I met in the break area after the bath. That was the most enjoyable moment for me (tkgshn).

- Over the past few days, I have been actively engaging in conversations with others about twice as much as usual.
- I realized the usefulness of “greetings” as it creates an environment where it’s understood that we can start a conversation, making it much more natural and enjoyable (blu3mo).
- Motivated by the log of Communication Trial and Error at License Camp on 20240528, I actively inquire about the other person’s hobbies, free time activities, and work-related matters.
- However, I find it challenging to respond after receiving answers (blu3mo).
- What questions to ask when I don’t know anything about the topic.
-
- Correct (blu3mo).
-
Isn’t there much opportunity to talk to other participants at a license camp (takker)?
- Or is it not a default opportunity, but rather that (blu3mo) actively initiated conversations?
- (tkgshn) suggested that “the license camp should be such a place.”
