• Created during the summer of 2018 at the Make School Summer Academy.

  • An app for learning vocabulary through listening.#ios#memorization#learning image

  • The content is as mentioned above.

  • In March 2021, the app suddenly received a lot of reviews.

    • Seeing that kind of feedback really boosts motivation.
    • I started to think that if I had created it with a focus on listening, it might have more potential.
      • Something like specializing in a comfortable listening experience and surpassing Quizlet.
      • Maybe even using Quizlet as a base would be fine.
    • If I had the time, I might have done it.
      • Well, maybe I should focus on Kineto?
      • Or maybe find a way to synergize with Kineto? (The word “synergy” sounds a bit suspicious though)
  • Now that I think about it, there are a lot of things I regret, so I’ll make a note of them.

    • About the idea and planning stage

      • I started working on a student schedule app at the 2017 MakeSchool Tokyo.

        • The UI design for that is still saved on Drive.
      • I pivoted halfway and ended up creating a vocabulary app.

      • After that, I attended MakeSchool SF and reconsidered the concept, ultimately deciding on a vocabulary app.

        • I was aware that Quizlet was overwhelmingly dominant, so I thought I should do things with a vocabulary app that Quizlet couldn’t do.
        • I originally had ideas about AI support (the buzzword “AI”), but being a middle school student, it was impossible.
        • I bought a machine learning book around that time and gave up.
        • Through all of that, I arrived at the concept of learning through listening.
        • I wanted to read research papers, but in the end, I didn’t do any surveys (because I was a middle school student).
        • Nergak (a reference) was doing it properly, which was amazing.
      • The biggest problem in this process was not considering the needs of users.

        • I was developing with the goal of creating a vocabulary app.
        • The development process was enjoyable, but in the end, everyone uses Quizlet.
        • I use Quizlet too.
        • We did something like user testing at Make School, but it was just a few minutes of having people play with the app.
        • It was never actually used.
        • That’s where the problem lies.
        • Kineto might be possible too, which is scary.
        • I need to be careful.
        • Seriously, I need to do user testing quickly (seriously) (self-reflection).
      • Also, I feel like I spent too much time on the design just for simplicity’s sake.

        • It was fun though, haha.
