In response to the question of the Meaning of HCI Research, I agree with the argument presented in HCI, Toys, and Academic Fields.
- This argument is assumed as the basis.
- (i.e. forgetting about any significance other than that of a (Strong) Concept for now)
-
(Strong) Concept is believed to not lead to short-term or individual profits or economic value, but to generate value in the long term or overall.
- Hence, the understanding that countries and large corporations fund research expenses.
-
On the other hand, this is based on the premise that it takes time for development and underlying technologies to become widespread.
- It takes time for technology to mature and for needs to catch up.
-
Assuming that the world continues to accelerate, is there a decreasing necessity to continue this through the current academia mechanism independent of industries?
