The real name of blu3mo (pronounced “blue-mo”) is Shuutarou Aoyama. He is 20 years old, born on December 26th. He is affiliated with the engineering department of Columbia University and usually stays in New York.

blu3mo took a 3-month leave of absence to stay at OIST in Okinawa, working as a research assistant at Sony CSL’s Cybenetic Humanity Studio.

blu3mo’s research focuses on Computer-mediated Reality (XR) and AI-mediated Communication. He is interested in designing “subjective reality” perceived through computers. By ignoring various constraints, things that were previously impossible in the physical world can now be achieved. He is particularly interested in the constraint of “objectivity.” Technologically, he can show completely different subjective realities to each individual (similar to a Matrix-like concept). On the other hand, current society and human nature are based on the assumption of the existence of a pseudo-objective world. He also believes that there is joy in interacting with people who have different environmental worlds as part of their personal values. Considering the current state of society and his own values, he is interested in exploring the design of a smooth “subjective reality” that is not 100% subjective or 100% objective.
