- I think the history textbook for#ib is more interesting compared to the Japanese one.#education#ministryofeducation
- It explains various events in chronological order as elements of one theme (e.g. radicalization in Japan).
- In addition to facts, it presents the cause-and-effect relationship with that theme.
- For example, the increase in literacy rate through compulsory education made it easier for the government to disseminate information and control the thoughts of the citizens.
- However, the content may be biased, so it may not be good.
- From the IB History study guide, there are six main concepts:
- Change
- Continuity
- Cause
- Consequence
- Significance
- Perspective
-
History can have countless branches.
- Historians explain why the current history was chosen instead of those branches.
- It is difficult because accurate records are not left and human intentions are involved.
-
It is easy to explain the reasons using hindsight, but it is biased.
-
It is not deterministic, as there are too many events involved.
-
It is impossible to predict the future, considering this point.
- Looking at history with hindsight may seem like we can make predictions, but that’s not the case.
-
The purpose of studying history is to “understand that there are far more possibilities than we can imagine before us.”
