The Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) is an internet-based system that manages students and exchange visitors (and their families) on F, M, and J visas from the time they receive their initial documents (I-20 or DS-2019) until they graduate/complete their program/leave the school.

For principal applicants of F, M, and J visas: Please check with your U.S. school to see if your information has been entered into SEVIS. In addition to the visa application fee, you will need to pay the SEVIS fee. For nonimmigrant students with an I-20 form, the SEVIS fee is 220 in U.S. dollars. Proof of payment is required before a visa can be issued to a student or exchange visitor. Please bring the receipt for the I-901 SEVIS fee to your embassy or consulate interview. Payment cannot be made at the embassy or consulate. For payment methods of the SEVIS fee, please refer to this link.
