Essay Management Method with Scrapbox and Google Docs
-
I feel like I’ve found a pretty good method.
-
Manage essays in Scrapbox based on reusability of topics.
- For example: Essay Unprecedented Case, Essay World of Mist
- Use Scrapbox for brainstorming and outlining.
- It’s convenient because you can refer to old pages on Scrapbox.
-
Create a Google Docs document for each topic.
- For example, create “Essay Untrodden Case” and “Essay World of Mist” Google Docs.
- Use Google Docs to actually write the essay and have others comment and make suggestions.
- Keep adding versions on top.
-
Additionally, create Docs for each university.
- For example, “Stanford Essays” and “MIT Essays”.
- Write university-specific essays in those Docs and link to the topic Docs for reusable topics.
-
The benefit of this method is that even essays with slightly different word counts for each university can be managed in the same Docs.
- You won’t have to worry about which university’s supplement is the latest in the Community Essay.
-
Manage each university’s applications in Scrapbox as well.
- For example, Swarthmore Application, UC Personal Insight Questions
- Think about which topic to use for each prompt there.
