    • Nishi Amane was a person who translated a lot of philosophical terms.
    • And also Fukuzawa Yukichi and others.
    • However, their thoughts contradicted the ideas of civil rights.
      • They believed in limiting individual rights to strengthen the country.

• Thoughts of civil rights:

  • Ueki Emori wrote a constitution similar to the modern one.
  • Nakae Chōmin said something like Rousseau.
    • The idea of growing the given rights into earned rights.
