• Entrance Exams

  • There seem to be quite a few available slots to take the exams.

    • Recommendation

      • Q: Can I apply for AO exams or recommendation exams at other universities while applying to Tsukuba University?

      • A: In principle, you cannot apply for both unless the other university’s exams allow it. Tsukuba University’s recommendation exams require a guarantee of enrollment if accepted.

    • AC

      • AC exams do not evaluate qualifications or achievements themselves. It is important to present the process of problem-solving in your activities (research, extracurricular activities, hobbies, etc.) without being bound by qualifications or achievements. If you have obtained qualifications, passed exams, or won awards during the problem-solving process, you can include them in your self-recommendation documents. It is important to explain how these qualifications or exams are positioned in your activities. However, in the Physical Education program, athletic achievements are given significant consideration along with other documents. It is extremely difficult to pass without any athletic achievements.

    • International Science Olympiad (Mito)

      • In addition to the results in the preliminary and final rounds, we also consider clear goals, willingness to learn systematically, and adaptability to learning after enrollment. The comprehensive assessment includes investigation reports, entry sheets, and interviews of about 15 minutes.

    • Tsukuba IB entrance exam application 2021

      • We do not judge based solely on scores. We comprehensively evaluate the submitted documents regarding EE, TOK, CAS achievements, as well as the interview and oral examination.

  • Recommendations can be applied for along with the other three options.

  • Only one of AC, International Science Olympiad, and IB can be selected.

  • For recommendations, enrollment is guaranteed upon acceptance.

- It seems that the number of available slots will determine which exams to take.
    - The competition ratio is quite high, with recommendations/IB being around 4-5 times.
    - The International Science Olympiad slot is about twice as competitive, relatively low.
    - AC is quite competitive, around 8-9 times.
