The “Teshima Art Museum” by artist Rei Naito and architect Ryue Nishizawa is built on a small hill overlooking the Seto Inland Sea on Teshima Island. The building, shaped like a water droplet, is situated on a part of the vast land that was once fallow terraced fields, revived with the help of local residents. With dimensions of approximately 40x60m and a maximum height of 4.3m, the structure is a concrete shell without any pillars, designed to directly incorporate the surrounding wind, sound, and light through two openings in the ceiling, creating an organic space where nature and the building interact. Inside the space, a “spring” emerges throughout the day, conveying infinite expressions as the seasons change and time flows.
