To balance a sense of agency in time management and prevent time from melting away, it can be challenging to follow a strict schedule, such as doing xx from n o’clock.

However, relying on methods like pressing the pomodoro button can lead to time melting away when you get distracted by other tasks.
So, how can we resolve this trade-off?
The feeling of being constrained may be due to a lack of a sense of agency in time management. This is just a hypothesis. It’s not about the content of what you do, but rather the act of time management itself. It would be great if there were a way to maintain a sense of agency while preventing time from melting away.
Situations where time melts away include:
- Taking time to get started on a task (engine starting)
- For this, it may be beneficial to make only the start of the task mandatory.
- Getting lost in distractions and suddenly realizing a lot of time has passed
- To address this, making intervals shorter and having a clear announcement when an interval ends could be helpful. Post-interval actions are also important.
