Remote lectures have rapidly become widespread during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, a major issue that has arisen is communication among students. In a regular face-to-face class, if there is something you don’t understand during a lecture, you can consult with the student next to you. But this has become difficult. In fact, it has been pointed out by colleagues that while on-demand teaching materials are effective for understanding basic concepts, students are lacking in their understanding of more complex topics. Creator Shirotaro Aoyama proposed this project with the aim of enhancing understanding in high school classes where students learn on their own. The resulting product, Kineto, encourages pseudo-synchronous communication among students. It achieves this by gradually synchronizing the progress of lecture videos among students through a concept called elastic synchronization. This unique concept is highly regarded and is likely to be highly evaluated even at international conferences. However, parameters such as the speed of synchronization will need to be optimized through user studies in the future. What is notable about Creator Aoyama is his Ability to Abstract and Explain Problems. In particular, the clear organization of the elastic synchronization system using line graphs demonstrates an ability comparable to that of graduate students that PM usually instructs at the university. On the other hand, it is unfortunate that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project was delayed until early February to conduct actual field experiments, and there was not enough feedback on the developed software. Considering Aoyama’s own development skills and growth during the project period, I believe that both this project and the creator himself will achieve further leaps and bounds.
