According to Gordon Allport’s definition of social psychology, “an attempt to understand and explain how individuals’ thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are influenced by the presence, imagined presence, or implied presence of others” (Allport, G. W., 1954).

• When considering the impact of feeling like there are others present, it doesn’t matter if others actually exist or not.

  • It could be a bot or even a counter for fakes or lies.

• Similar arguments can be made for other topics.

  • For example, in the context of “deceiving the speed of time,” if one believes that time is constant, it doesn’t necessarily have to be constant.
