• As a rough summary:

  • There are two main structures:
    • The ideal of Rousseau
      • Involves the concept of the General Will
      • The General Will is seen as a natural rather than a social entity
        • Politics without communication
      • Solitude
    • The ideal of Arendt and Habermas
      • Involves deliberation, discussing and communicating political issues in public
      • Assumes the existence of a certain level of Inter-subjectivity for discussions
      • This ideal is more mainstream and common sense in current politics
  • Hiroki Azuma argues that reinterpreting the Rousseauian ideal in light of the technologies existing in the 21st century would be beneficial.
